Description: Admittedly, it appears somewhat eccentric to claim that a recipe for gin has the power to unite great British traditions, the exoticness of India, and the purity and nativeness of the Black Forest. And yet it is precisely this eccentricity that defi nes the enigmatic character of Montgomery Collins, from whom our Schwarzwald Dry Gin originates. MONKEY 47 – Distilled from 47 predominantly unusual but regional botanicals such as lingonberries and blended with natural spring water. Cheers!

Nose/Taste/Finish Juniper

The mountain ranges of the Central and Southern Black Forest (as well as the neighboring Swabian Mountains) are still home to numerous heathlands dotted with age-old juniper trees. Which is why juniper berries have always been used to give aroma to the famous Black Forest ham. Before being smoked, the entire ham is marinated in a juniper berry paste whose fine aromas are absorbed into the meat. For Montgomery Collins, the man who had made his home in the Black Forest, therefore, the path to producing gin was an extremely short one. To create our gin, however, we must venture further afield, as we use only selected, fully ripened berries from Tuscany with whose sun-blessed aroma our native juniper berries cannot compete.

Spicy Notes

A number of spices from East Asia lend Monkey 47 its fiery, complex aftertaste. Some of our chosen spicy ingredients include six different kind of peppers as well as cardamom, nutmeg, and almond to name a few….

Floral Notes

Conveying the crisp, floral note of a gin belongs to the great art of distilling. In addition to lavender, which is traditionally used to lend commercial gins their floral aroma, we also use the blossoms of Black Forest Acacias and wild honeysuckle as well as the blossoms of Monarda didyma (Scarlet Monarda)

Over het Gin Festival

Het Gin Festival zal plaatsvinden in Undercurrent, gelegen op het NDSM-terrein en uitkijkend over het water. Een speciale gratis veerdienst zal tussen het Centraal Station (PIER 3) en het festival op en neer varen gedurende de openingstijden.
LET OP: stel je navigatie NIET in op papaverweg 265, maar zoek Undercurrent of Papaverweg 54, wat er tegenover ligt.
Op vrijdag 19 mei begint het Gin Festival om 15:00 en duurt tot 22:30. De toegang is € 25 in de voorverkoop en € 30 aan de deur.
Op zaterdag 20 mei zijn er 2 sessies: van 13:00 tot 17:30 en 18:30 tot 23:00. De prijs hiervoor is € 21,50 in de voorverkoop en € 26,50 aan de deur. Je krijgt een special tasting-glas bij binnenkomst en een Gin Guide, waarin alle 200+ aanwezige merken hun eigen pagina hebben. Hierop kan je zelf smaaknotities maken.Het proeven van de dranken is bij de entreeprijs inbegrepen en bij elke stand kun je een full-size mixdrankje kopen tegen betaling met muntjes. Deze zijn op het terrein te koop en te gebruiken voor dranken en eten.

The Gin Festival Amsterdam will take place in Undercurrent at the NSDM terrain, overlooking the water. A special ferry will navigate between Amsterdam Central Station and the venue, free of charge for visitors of the festival.
ATTENTION: don't set your navigation on Papaverweg 265, but google Undercurrent OR Papaverweg 54, which lies opposite of UC.
On Friday May 19 the festival takes place from 15:00 till 22:30. Admission fee is € 25 in pre-sale and € 30 at the door.
On Saturday May 20 there will be 2 sessions: from 13:00 till 17:30 and 18:30 till 23:00. Presale price is € 21,50 and € 26,50 at the door.
Included in the fee are a special tasting glass, a Gin Guide with all 200+ spirits present and the tasting of all spirits. Full-size mixes are for sale at each stand, using coins, which you can also use for buying food.
